TSERING' s story

In the heart of Gorkha's Bihi Nubri, Tsering Wangdak Lama stands as a beacon of hope. At fourteen, he navigates the challenges of an isolated Himalayan valley with unwavering determination.

Bihi Nubri, tucked in the northwest of Nepal, is known for its breathtaking landscape and ties to Buddhism. Despite its beauty, the region faces underdevelopment and seasonal starvation. Rooted in Tibetan traditions, the locals strive to preserve their way of life.

Tsering Wangdak's family, subsistence farmers in Bihi village, toil for sustenance. Renting farming land from the main Buddhist monastery became their lifeline. One of five siblings, Tsering Wangdak is the beacon of hope, his education becoming a lifeline for a brighter future.

In the face of goitre and malnutrition, Tsering Wangdak's story is one of resilience. In a family marked by alcoholism and the loss of their mother to Tuberculosis in 2018, education becomes his solace. The harsh truth of infants being abandoned and lives cut short by preventable illnesses paints a stark picture of local challenges.

Responding to this desperation, the Serang community established a project to uplift children like Tsering Wangdak. The goal is clear—to provide education and bridge gaps in transportation, healthcare, and basic facilities. This initiative illuminates a path to a better future for destitute Himalayan children.

With gratitude, Tsering Wangdak embraces this opportunity. His adjustment to a new home, where he has enough to eat and a comfortable bed, symbolizes transformation. Every child in this region craves the services and opportunities that education provides.

As we embark on this journey of hope, let's acknowledge Tsering Wangdak's resilience. The school's establishment reflects a commitment to make a lasting difference in the lives of destitute Himalayan communities. Together, we strive to be architects of change, illuminating the path to a brighter tomorrow for Tsering Wangdak and his friends.

“In 2016, my sister Dawa Choezom, with the generous help of Ven. Nubtul Tenpei Nyima Rinpoche secured my admission to this blissful school. At seven, I entered Serang Primary School, and the excitement was overwhelming. Nine years later, I've embraced a wealth of knowledge from our caring teachers. Nepali is my favourite subject. Satisfied and nourished, I dream of becoming a Nepali teacher. Despite missing my late mother, I find joy in being part of this school. Dad visits annually, and I'm grateful to my sister and all the Serang Tulku Rinpoches and teachers who make this learning journey so meaningful.” -Tsering Wangdak
